New Owners
Hello Folks;
The summer of 2008 was fun and exciting for us. Redfern River lodge was purchased by Randy and Gabriela Hamp and will be re- opened in June 2009. I, Darrell Anderson will be the lead guide. Lori Petkau has agreed to take care of hosting duties and her husband Jake will be one of our guides. Jake and Lori were raised at Ootsa Lake which is part of the same watershed as Eutsuk. Jake has spent a lot of time on our waters and is a valuable resource to us. Lori has a lot of experience as a host and brings a lot of knowledge of plants and herbs.
Our Chef is also local talent with a training and experience as a gourmet and pastry chef. Chris Boeker and his family spent many summers fishing in Tweedsmuir Park and we welcome him to our team.
Randy and Gabriella were married at the lodge this July. It was an amazing weekend shared with family and friends.
A new generator and fuel shed was built and there are plans for more work to the lodge pre start up 2009 and a new dock for 2010. A new 27’ aluminum boat was built and added to our fleet in 2008 and we have plans for another. These big boats get us to the isolated fishing streams fast and comfortably.
I spent most of the summer at the lodge, fishing and exploring. My wife Louise and I hosted our good friends Deb and Greg Stuchlik from Lexington, Nebraska. My Mother and Aunt Pat and Uncle Ed Nestorowicz from Lethbridge Alta. with their good friend Jill from England also joined us for a few days. Deb and Greg had some great fishing at the Redfern River. We caught incredibly strong fighting fish to 20 inches and Greg said he caught and released at least 50 fish the day we fished the river. Deb released the biggest fish we caught all summer. It was a 29 inch rainbow hooked right in front of the lodge.
Jill from England caught her very first fish ever and Uncle Ed had some pretty good fishing in the big lake. I had Bob and his daughter Amanda at the lodge for a week in Aug. helping me with some clean up and repairs. We had incredible weather and Amanda caught a beautiful 7.5 lb lake rainbow. We fly fished the west end of the lake at Sorrel falls. It was good dry Fly fishing in one of the most beautiful locations I have ever fished. We hosted other friends from BC in Mid Sept. and had some great fishing at the Redfern River and in the big lake.
2009 promises to be a great year as we open our doors and begin sharing this paradise with our guests. This remote area has been described as one of North America’s last frontiers. It lies undiscovered as a fishing destination and as a pristine, wilderness Park.
I have just returned from ISE shows in San Mateo, Sacramento and The Western Canadian Fly Fishing Expo in Calgary. It was great to meet so many other fly fishers and I hope we have the opportunity to serve some of you at our lodge in the future.

Hope to see you here at Redfern River Lodge,
Darrell Anderson
